In most new modern homes there has been a garage built into the lower floor and living space above on the next two floors. Houses built before that modern style has been introduced quite often had a garage at the end of the drive in the garden. Garages unlike in the past are now very rarely used to house a car which means there is an empty space in most houses that can be put to good use. A great place to start when making the most out of the space is looking at investing in plastic storage boxes. This means you will keep anything you need to store for long periods of time dry and away from damp. Plastic storage boxes can also be stacked high and tidily. Using a marker pen on the outside you will be able mark up what’s in them to see easily if you ever need anything from them. If you have a working kitchen that feeds an active or large family you may find that extra cupboard space is essential, so turning part of your garage into
a mini kitchen can free space upstairs. Installing a washer dryer can mean that you can do laundry away from the hustle of the main kitchen and if you choose to wash over night it’s unlikely to wake the family. If you are going to use your garage as an extra room in the house to free up space in your kitchen, it’s also very handy to look at chest freezers as this can mean you can keep a frozen supply of food in for emergencies. If your garage is in a new house you may find that the room is insulated well enough to even consider adding a treadmill, exercise bike or even a weight lifting bench and turning some of the space into a personal gym. If you take these ideas on board your garage could become that extra space in your home that you never knew you needed.
